RESULTS AFTER THE 60-DAY MARK
At the 60-day mark, Dr. Phil Koehler, Emeritus Distinguished Professor, University of Florida
Entomology Department and co-inventor of the trap, examined randomly selected traps.
Reacting to the contents of a trap that was located just south of the Atlantic Beach police
station entrance, Professor Koehler stated, “This is amazing…I am impressed with this because this is a large number of mosquito larvae that have died. They would have actually emerged as adults by now and been out here trying to bite us…while we’re looking at this…so this may be 20, 30 females that just visited this one trap and died.”
Ellen Glasser, Mayor, City of Atlantic Beach, commented, “The outcome of this demonstration
gives us confidence that these traps do their jobs to control mosquitoes trying to breed around our government complex, and may well be a very viable alternative to spraying pesticides while controlling the mosquito population.” She added, “As I have previously said, we hope that these traps are a win-win-win for our residents, community and the planet”
The purpose of the demonstration project was two-fold: to observe the level of efficacy of the
INZECTO Mosquito Traps in a public area with high foot-traffic and to evaluate where the traps may be deployed in other parts of the city.
The demonstration was fully funded and managed by INZECTO. The company developed its
new technology with the Urban Entomology Department at the University of Florida with the
initial research funded by the Pentagon. The Department of Defense needed pest control
devices that would be easy to use by American troops overseas deployed to protect them from disease carrying mosquitoes.
INZECTO Mosquito Trap Features:
The INZECTO Mosquito Trap is a mosquito killing device made of partially recycled plastic with ribbed sides, and red and black colors that are highly preferred by resting and egg-laying female mosquitoes that bite. The trap requires minimal maintenances and is simply activated by adding water. The females enter the trap to lay their eggs and 100% of the mosquito larvae are killed by the micro-dose coating of insecticides imbedded into the plastic. The insecticides are on the inside of the trap for no contact.
Female mosquitoes lay hundreds of eggs every seven to 12 days. The INZECTO Mosquito Trap greatly disrupts the breeding cycle of mosquitoes. As a result, the number of female-biting mosquitoes are significantly reduced.
The mosquito is the deadliest animal on the planet, killing more than 800,000 people a year
from the transmission of deadly viruses through bites. Due to climate change and a growing resistance to pesticides, mosquito seasons start earlierand end later.
Mosquito populations continue to migrate and can be found in nearly every corner of the world creating an exponential increase in the number of mosquitoes, bites, transmissions, illnesses, and deaths. Proactive mosquito prevention and control will play a growing vital role in the future of vector disease prevention.
